Building a new community on the Thames - Greenwich Peninsula
BDL has successfully completed a substantial package of works at No. 2 Upper Riverside – a luxury high-rise building in the ground-breaking Greenwich Peninsula development, an evolving community composed of seven neighbourhoods, all set on a loop of the River Thames.
Greenwich Peninsula is an ambitious development, which, over the next 10 years, aims to transform a section of the London riverfront into a new community with seven neighbourhoods, characterised by towering skyscrapers, cutting-edge architecture and green spaces. Once fully completed, Greenwich Peninsula is set to offer 15,000 new homes, 13,000 new jobs, a design district and a 5km cultural walkway – all in an urban riverside environment.
One of five residential buildings which make up the Upper Riverside neighbourhood, No. 2 boasts a swimming pool on the 15th floor. This pool has the distinction of being one of the highest in the country.
Helping to create one of the UK’s highest swimming pools
Our scope of works involved carrying out the fit out of the swimming pool on level 15 of No. 2 Upper Riverside. We were tasked with building all the walls – with the main wall needing an exceptionally high-standard stone finish.
It was also our responsibility to complete the ceiling, which required a complex, two-stage operation. Firstly, we installed a mass barrier ceiling, which we had constructed in advance.
Once this was in place, we built a secondary ceiling underneath, using Vogl board – a bespoke German system specially designed for swimming pools. It was the first time that we had used this type of material on any of our projects. In addition, as part of the specialist ceiling works that we delivered on this project, we also put in Glass Reinforced Gypsum (GRG) bulkheads.
We delivered our works for this luxury residence to the uncompromisingly high standards that we always demand of ourselves. In the process, we were able to successfully meet the demands of a very challenging programme. As a result of our efforts on this project, both principal contractor, Mace, and the client were delighted with the exceptional quality of our works and high-end finishes.
